We’re a small, passionate, and highly technical team based in Edinburgh, combining deep machine learning experience with a rigorous approach to product design and engineering.

What you’ll do

As an Engineer II, you are a solid Individual Contributor who owns the full delivery cycle of well defined problems, not just the implementation, but deciding on the technical approach. You operate with speed and confidence within your team's domain, requiring minimal assistance. While focusing on your own delivery, you also reach into your immediate team to lift others up through mentoring, onboarding and knowledge sharing.

• Own, design and reliably deliver medium sized projects and features for the Malted Platform within agreed timelines.

• Design simple, robust solutions and identify when a feature requires a deeper architectural conversation.

• Write well structured, maintainable code and provide insightful, constructive feedback during code reviews.

• Identify and address gaps in the observability, monitoring and alerting of your squad's systems.

• Ensure your changes are safe to deploy, taking operational risks, security, and edge case failures seriously.

• Contribute meaningfully to sprint planning and begin to influence what features the team prioritises.

• Share knowledge freely, support less experienced engineers, and contribute positively to a healthy team culture.

You are a highly capable, autonomous engineer who thrives on end to end accountability. You are a strong collaborator who communicates proactively, keeps stakeholders informed without being asked, and balances fast execution with a thoughtful approach to system health.

Minimum requirements

• Eligible to work in the UK.

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.

• Proven ability to independently break down, design, and implement medium-sized engineering features.

• Solid experience in Python (or another language) and strong proficiency working across the full stack.

• Good understanding of distributed system patterns, APIs, and database design (SQL/NoSQL).

• Experience practicing modern DevOps habits (CI/CD, monitoring, and supporting production systems).

• Track record of successfully collaborating with teammates and helping onboard or support junior peers.

Working at Malted

We’re based in Edinburgh and work from the office three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). The rest of the week is work from home. We keep a high bar for technical quality but a low tolerance for ego. You’ll join a team that values precision, humour and intellectual honesty.
